Finally updated again,
12/09 for spring 2010
Howdy folks,
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to chat with you.
These computers and the folks who help me get the word out can sure be miraculous, but if not, at times challenging.
This little web-hobby-business is still very much in its infancy.
It and the person running it are constantly learning. Unfortunately, this ongoing learning curve affects some of you good folk who get less than impressive service. Thankfully those few are in the minority. We/I had a major malfunction this last spring when something went haywire with my email communication/account and the last email I sent or received through my principal address was in mid April. If anyone reading this had issues with service from the spring of 2009 and tried to contact me after that date, I don’t know about it. I offer an open plea to please give me the opportunity to do right this year.
2009 was challenging for gardeners.
Drought and excessive heat are a tough combination. If I can get a dollar from every person who will ask me next spring “What tomato does well in a drought?” I’ll be able to retire. Undoubtedly these are the same folks that would have asked two years ago “What tomatoes can take 20 inches of rain in 60days?” The rest of you know the answer,
its the same to both questions.
Changes for 2010? You may notice that I started off by trying to reduce the number of varieties that I offer. I figured if I grow fewer maybe the quality might be better. So I dropped over fifty of the slower movers. But those of you who really know me know that couldn’t last long! Yup, I added. Over two dozen new varieties of ‘heirloom’ and yes, a couple of hybrid (gulp-I just threw-up in my mouth a little) tomatoes. I hope you’ll also notice I’ve greatly expanded my Cukes & Melons category, with over a dozen new varieties. Cukes & Melons need warmer soil, and since I don’t have a true ‘heated’ green house, plants will be a little small when they arrive. Consult the variety page for more info.
Anyway, welcome back. I am looking forward to the Zilker Garden Show in Austin late March and the Cibolo Plant sale in April. We will be doing our second annual ‘Mater-Day at The Duck’ Sunday, March 14th (21st rain/cold date . We hope you might plan a trip to Boerne to pick up your orders, or be the first to browse our “left-overs”, have a pint and a pretzel and enjoy a beautiful day. www.dodgingduck.com
