Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Do you do public speaking?

Absolutely, I love getting out and chatting with Garden Clubs, Master Gardeners or anybody who would be interested in listening.
  • Can I come to your place and Pick up plants?

I’m sorry but I am just to busy during the growing season to entertain guests at my little greenhouse, I’m usually out working late into the night or before dawn…not a terribly convenient schedule I’m afraid.
  • When will my plants ship?

When they have at least two sets of true leaves…I don’t have a heated greenhouse so my little plants grow slow. I’ll try to ship on Monday or Tuesday, the first or second week of March, later orders…well, later.
  • Do you sell seeds?

No, but there are a couple of great web-sites accessible through my links page.
  • Can you recommend specific varieties for; heat, humidity, containers, hydroponics, flavor, most toxic to cats, etc…

No. I do what I can to provide a little info about each plant and leave it up to you to research and trial from there. I’ll choose to limit my recommendations to my ‘Favorites’ category.
  • Will I have to ‘harden off’ my plants?

Yes, transplants will arrive stressed do to shipping and should be babied… set out in a position protected from wind and hot afternoon sun for a couple of days then gradually moved into more light & wind before being set in there permanent homes.
  • Why are the different varieties different sizes?

Different tomato varieties germinate faster and others grow slower = different sized plants.
  • Why do you sell out so fast? Why must we order so early?

I am only one, granted lazy, guy. I pull the plug when I feel I have taken all the orders I can process in a timely manner. Many varieties are produced in fairly limited numbers, so by ordering early (before 1/15) I will have an idea if I should plant more of a specific variety and it reserves your selections on a first come basis.
  • Why do you say your “Sold Out”, but that you will still have plants available for upcoming ‘Plant Sales’?

    A) See above answer…
    B) I grow extra plants specifically for these sales.
    C) At a certain point I’ll sell out of too many varieties and I would be forced to substitute too much.
    D) Bottom line, order early… please.
  • Is there a catalog you could send to a friend?

Sorry but again, no. The cost of printing, postage and that laziness thing again…please feel free to print out any pages you wish and send them to your friends and relatives, cause gosh knows I’m not gonna.
  • Why don’t you respond promptly to emails?

I try to respond to as many serious responses/questions as I can until about the first of March, then I’m just too busy and won’t even turn on the computer for days at a time. I try to answer as many questions as I can in forums like this one and my “What’s’ New” page.
